Originally engraved by George Edwards in his works A Natural History of Uncommon Birds and Gleanings of Natural History Michael Seligmann re-engraved the plates and combined it with Catesbys work A Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands translating the names into German and adding some figures and plants not present in the originals.

This print showcases "The Toucan or Brasilian Pye" a stunning coloured engraving created by George Edwards in the years 1749-73. The artwork, now part of a private collection, has been re-engraved by Michael Seligmann, a talented German engraver and art dealer from Nuremberg. Originally featured in Edwards' renowned works "A Natural History of Uncommon Birds" and "Gleanings of Natural History" this particular piece combines elements from Mark Catesby's work titled "A Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands". Seligmann translated the names into German while also adding some unique figures and plants that were not present in the original engravings. "The Toucan or Brasilian Pye" portrays the majestic Pica brasiliensis, commonly referred to as the Brazilian Jay. This exquisite illustration beautifully captures its vibrant plumage and distinctive features. With meticulous detail and artistic finesse, Edwards skillfully brings this avian wonder to life on paper.
