Checking out. . . these Rastrick High School pupils set a shining example by designing lanterns for a performance at Halifax's historic Piece Hall. The fifth-year students, Ruth Brown, Charlotte Judd-Hill, and Sharon Suttle, joined forces with community artists Action Factory to create beautiful lanterns for the upcoming production of GASP - Guard Against Sea Pollution. Under the guidance of Mr Peter Gascoigne, arts development officer for Calderdale Council's museum and arts division, this collaborative project aims to raise awareness about environmental issues among teenagers. These talented girls have put their creativity to work in order to shed light on the urgent need to protect our oceans from pollution. The highly anticipated show will take place on November 5th at 7pm, with doors opening at 6pm for pre-show musical and magical entertainment. Action Factory's puppets, fireworks, music, and stunning lighting effects promise an unforgettable experience for all attendees. This photograph captures a moment of pride as these young students proudly display their handcrafted lanterns. Their dedication and commitment serve as an inspiration not only within their school but also within the wider community. As we look back on this snapshot from October 26th, 1991 – a testament to education and environmental consciousness – we are reminded that it is through such creative initiatives that positive change can be achieved.
