EDITORS COMMENTS
This historic photograph captures a joyous moment in the lives of King George V and Queen Mary as they celebrate their Silver Jubilee in 1935. Surrounded by their five adult children, the royal family gathers to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the monarch's reign. In the top left corner, Princess Mary, the only daughter of the King and Queen, stands proudly. Next to her is their eldest son, Prince Edward, who would later become the Duke of Windsor and abdicate the throne. Beneath them is the Duke of York, who would succeed his brother as King George VI. The Duke of Gloucester, Prince Henry, is seen in the bottom left corner, while the Duke of Kent, Prince George, occupies the bottom right. Although not present in the photograph, the family had recently suffered the tragic loss of their youngest son, Prince John, who died at the age of thirteen. This poignant image showcases the unity and love of the British royal family during a significant milestone in their history.
