Quarry Hill Flats, Leeds: A Bird's Eye View into the Past This aerial photograph, taken on the 2nd of June 1939, offers a unique perspective of Quarry Hill Flats in Leeds, West Yorkshire, as it once stood before the passage of time. The image is part of the extensive Aerofilms Collection held by Historic England. Quarry Hill Flats, an iconic example of interwar social housing, was designed by architects Ove Arup and Thomas Shelley with the aim of providing affordable housing for the working class community. The estate was built between 1935 and 1938, and its modernist design was considered revolutionary at the time.
