Neryungri hydroelectric power station control room and workers. Neryungri is a town in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in eastern Russia. The power station harnesses the power of flowing water to generate electricity. Neryungri HPS (hydro power station) generates 570 MW of power and is part of the larger Southern Yakutia power district. The power stations in the region supply energy for the Neryungri and Aldan industrial and agricultural complexes. Sakha Republic has the largest hydroelectric power system in the Russian Far East. As of 2006, YakuskEnergo JSC generates over 2000 MW of power, maintains over 22, 000 kilometres of power cables, and employs more than 14, 000 people. Photographed on 15 September 2005
