EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite elements of a Louis XV cream-painted panelled room, dating back to the years between 1750 and 1940. Crafted with polychrome wood by the skilled hands of French artisans, this masterpiece is now part of a private collection. The panels themselves are adorned with intricate designs featuring elegant C-scrolls, acanthus leaves, ruffles, and trailing vine-carved surrounds. Rectangular wainscotting panels with molding add an extra touch of sophistication to the overall composition. Some panels even feature apertures for fireplaces, overdoors, doorways, mirrors, and two painted panel overdoors created by a follower of Francois Boucher. The attention to detail is truly remarkable in this room's design. Mirrors have been strategically placed within some apertures while yellow-painted numbers reading NORTH WALL and SOUTH EAST mark various panels. Multiple black and blue chalk inscriptions can be found alongside blue-bordered paper labels inscribed in graphite with numerals. Although redecorated at some point during its history, this stunning room still retains its original charm and allure. The 19th-century grey-veined marble fire-surround boasts Spanish brocatelle panels as well as rouge royal marble insets. A modern concrete lining has been added to the interior of the fireplace for practicality purposes. Preserved through time and captured beautifully in this photograph taken by Bridgeman Images on behalf of Christie's Auction House (not for commercial use), this Louis XV cream-painted panelled room serves as a testament to timeless elegance and artistic craftsmanship that transcends centuries.
