EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases "The Daydream" painting by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, created in 1880 and reproduced around 1912. The artwork, currently housed in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, depicts Jane Morris as its subject. Jane was the wife of William Morris, with whom Rossetti engaged in a forbidden love affair during the time he painted this masterpiece. Dante Gabriel Rossetti was a multi-talented British poet, illustrator, painter, and translator who co-founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 alongside William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais. His artistic style drew heavily from medieval influences and particularly admired the works of his namesake Dante Alighieri. Interestingly, Rossetti's personal life intertwined with his artistry. He married Elizabeth Siddal, who served as his model for "Beata Beatrix" a poignant painting completed after her untimely death. Later on, he became involved with Jane Morris - one of his muses - while being a founding partner of Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. , an esteemed decorative arts firm established by William Morris. This insightful caption is derived from Lucien Pissarro's book "Rossetti - Masterpieces in Colour" published circa 1912 by TC & EC Jack and Frederick A Stokes Co. , offering readers glimpses into Rossetti's remarkable journey through art history.
