Crafty sorts. . Some of the seven to 11 year olds attending Wooldale and New Mill summer play scheme at Wooldale junior school are pictured making arts and crafts to commemorate next month's Olympics. The vibrant energy in the room is palpable as these young artists channel their creativity into painting, cutting, and gluing various materials together. With focused expressions on their faces, they eagerly bring their imaginative ideas to life. Today, the atmosphere was further enlivened by children's entertainer Ricky Scott, who captivated everyone with his mesmerizing tricks and jokes. Laughter filled the air as he engaged with each child individually, leaving them spellbound. The dedication of Mrs Dilys Marshall, the play scheme leader, is evident as she guides her enthusiastic group through this artistic endeavor. Assisting her are six young volunteers from Honley, Holmfirth, and Newsome high schools – a testament to their commitment towards fostering a sense of community among children during these summer holidays. As we capture this moment in time on August 9th, 1988 - an era marked by its unique fashion trends and nostalgic charm - it serves as a reminder that art has no boundaries or limitations. These budding artists may not realize it now but someday they will look back fondly on this day when they played a part in commemorating an event that united people from all corners of the world.
