A 1921 Coventry motor cycle - a Triumph Model "H"
A 1921 Coventry motor cycle - a Triumph Model " H" - being presented on permanent loan to the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum by Mr. Ivor Davies(right) on behalf of the Triumph Engineering Company Ltd. The machine, a 550 c.c. side valve model " H" is similar to those ridden by British dispatch riders during the First World War. In all some 30, 000 were turned out by the firm for military use between 1914 and 1918. The machine has been in the possession of the Triumph company for many years and has been stored in a warehouse at the Meriden factory. Mr. Davies, the Triumph publicity manager, in handing over the machine to Mr. C. J. Scott, the museum curator, said: " We feel that quite a lot of people may be interested in the Model " H" due to its wartime connections. It is much better that a lot of people should have the chance to see it rather than the few who have had the opportunity to inspect it in the factory. I think it is a splendid arrangement.

EDITORS COMMENTS
A Piece of History Unveiled: A 1921 Coventry Motor Cycle - Triumph Model 'H'". In this photo print, we witness a significant moment in the history of motorcycling. Mr. Ivor Davies, representing the esteemed Triumph Engineering Company Ltd. , presents a remarkable artifact to the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum on permanent loan. The focal point of this occasion is an iconic 1921 Coventry motor cycle - a Triumph Model "H". This awe-inspiring machine, with its powerful 550 c. c. side valve engine, evokes memories of British dispatch riders during the First World War. It is reminiscent of the very motorcycles that played an instrumental role during those tumultuous times, as over 30,000 were produced by Triumph between 1914 and 1918 for military use. Stored within the confines of Triumph's Meriden factory warehouse for many years, this exceptional motorcycle now finds itself in public view due to Mr. Davies' thoughtful gesture. As he hands over the keys to Mr. C. J Scott, curator at the museum, he expresses his belief that sharing such historical treasures with a wider audience is paramount. The unveiling ceremony took place on February 14th, 1961 – marking a momentous day when enthusiasts and history buffs alike could marvel at this splendid piece from yesteryears' wartime connections. Through this photograph captured by Coventry Telegraph Archive's Memory Lane Prints collection, we are transported back in time to appreciate not only the craftsmanship but also pay homage to those who relied on these machines during one of humanity's most challenging periods.
