Coventry Boys Club have moved and more than 100 members spent their first evening
Coventry Boys Club have moved and more than 100 members spent their first evening enjoying their new premises in Whitefriars Lane, Coventry. Since 1949 the club have tried to carry out their various activities in the restricted space of the John Hough Mission, New Building, Coventry. Now they can enlarge the scope of their activities. Although already in use, the premises will not be opened officially for about another month. It was more than a year ago that Coventry Guage and Tool Ltd. offered the club one of their pavilions. The building was transported piecemeal to a site adjoining Whitefriars Lane, which will not be affected by Coventrys ring road scheme. The pavilion was re-erected and annexes were built to form a canteen, washroom, handicrafts room and stores. In the main building are a table tennis table, a billiars table and physical training equipment. During the past few days members of the management committee and some of the senior boys have cleared the building ready for use. Officially, the clubs members range from the age of 14 to 18, " But, " said Mr E. W. C. Pendleton, Chief Constable of Coventry and the clubs chairman, " some younger ones have seeped in." The club has three football teams that play each Saturday and a cricket team too. What do the boys think of it? One boy, with a billiard cue in his hand, summed up the feelings of his pals.
