EDITORS COMMENTS
This portrait graces the cover of The Tatler magazine in 1917, featuring the enchanting Yvonne FitzRoy (1891-1971). Known for her acting prowess on the London stage prior to the First World War, FitzRoy's career took an unexpected turn when she answered the call of duty. Summoned by the Scottish Women's Hospital, supported by the National Union of Scottish Women's Suffrage Societies, she volunteered to serve as a nurse in Romania and Russia. Following her heroic efforts, FitzRoy embarked on a new journey to India, where she assumed the role of private secretary for the wife of the Viceroy from 1920 to 1926.
