Born into an aristocratic family, Douglas joined the Swedish forces under the command of Queen Christina of Sweden in 1655. His military career began in earnest during the Second Northern War (1655-1660), where he distinguished himself in several key battles against the Danish and Polish forces. Douglas's strategic prowess and leadership skills were evident during the Battle of Warsaw in 1656, where he led a successful assault on the Polish fortifications. His actions were crucial in securing a Swedish victory and preventing the Polish forces from advancing further into Swedish territory. This photograph, believed to have been taken around 1657, captures Douglas in his prime, wearing the uniform of a Swedish officer.
