Francois Pierre Gillet: A Prominent Figure in 18th Century French Jurisprudence This portrait depicts Francois Pierre Gillet (1648-1720), a renowned French jurist who made significant contributions to the development of French law during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Gillet's distinguished career spanned over six decades, during which he served as a magistrate, a professor of law, and a member of the Parlement of Paris. Born in Paris, Gillet began his legal studies at the Sorbonne University, where he quickly gained a reputation for his exceptional intellect and dedication to the law. He went on to serve as a magistrate in various courts throughout France, eventually rising to the position of president of the Chambre des Enquêtes in the Parlement of Paris.
