Biblioth X8c75 D X98ef Ratifs Damascus Day Light Etching Mount Napoleons Sultan

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative etching depicts the Battle of Mount Thabor, which took place on 17th February 1799, between the troops of Napoleon Bonaparte and those of the Sultan of Damascus. The scene is set against the picturesque backdrop of the rugged terrain of Mount Thabor, located in modern-day Lebanon. The vibrant colors and intricate details of the etching bring the chaos and intensity of the battle to life. Napoleon's forces, dressed in their distinctive blue and white uniforms, are shown advancing up the mountain, their flags unfurled and their weapons at the ready. The Sultan's troops, clad in traditional Middle Eastern garb, are depicted in a defensive position, prepared to repel the French invasion. The clash of arms and the thunderous roar of cannon fire fill the air as the two sides engage in fierce combat. The etching, created by an unknown artist, is housed in the Décorative Arts Library (Bibliothèque des Arts Décoratifs) in Paris. The library, with its grand exterior and impressive collection, serves as a fitting home for this historical work of art. The etching, captured in the soft, natural light filtering through the library's windows, invites the viewer to step back in time and witness the epic struggle between the forces of Napoleon and the Sultan of Damascus on the fateful day of 17th February 1799.
