EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the bustling streets of Stepney, Tower Hamlets, Greater London. The exterior view captures an unidentified brick built terraced house that exudes a sense of mystery and intrigue. With its blocked doorway and window, one can't help but wonder about the stories that unfolded within those walls. The note on the reverse of the print provides some clues about its location - it mentions "Side of No 10_Part of No 11 Palmers Place, next to 11a". However, despite our best efforts, the exact spot on modern mapping remains elusive. This only adds to the enigma surrounding this Victorian-era gem. As we examine this snapshot from another era, we are transported to a time when these Georgian-style terraced houses lined every street corner. The image showcases not just a single building but also offers glimpses into life during the late 1870s in London. The scene is completed by a dimly lit cobbled street with an old-fashioned street light casting eerie shadows. A ghost sign adorns one side of the building's facade, hinting at forgotten businesses or long-lost advertisements. Through Mitchell's lens, we catch a glimpse of history frozen in time - a moment captured forever for us to ponder upon.
