EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Francisco Goya's renowned masterpiece, "La Maja Vestida" or "The Clothed Maja". Painted between 1800 and 1808, this artwork is a fascinating piece of history. Originally owned by Prime Minister Manuel de Godoy, notorious for his womanizing ways, it was displayed in his home alongside the famous "Naked Maja". Ingeniously arranged with a pulley mechanism, the Naked Maja could be revealed at any moment. Legend has it that the subject of this painting is none other than the Duchess of Alba herself. However, some experts identify her as Pepita Tudo, Godoy's mistress during that time. The oil on canvas masterpiece can now be found at the Museo del Prado in Madrid. In this portrait, we see a lady reclining on a bed in an opulent bedroom. Her posture exudes confidence and allure as she rests with her hands behind her head. With direct gaze and vibrant colors surrounding her, she captivates viewers from all walks of life. This print captures not only Goya's artistic brilliance but also offers us a glimpse into Spanish society during the 19th century. It serves as a reminder of love affairs and scandals that often unfolded within aristocratic circles. A true treasure held at Museo del Prado - an exquisite representation of Francisco Goya's genius for generations to admire and appreciate.
