Multnomah Falls during winter, Columbia Gorge, Oregon, USA
Multnomah Falls is a waterfall on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, located east of Troutdale, between Corbett and Dodson, along the Historic Columbia River Highway. The waterfall formed at the end of a hanging valley created by the Missoula Floods. The falls drops in two major steps, split into an upper falls of 165 m and a lower falls of 21 m, with a gradual 3 m drop in elevation between the two, so the total height of the waterfall is conventionally given as 189 m. The two drops are due to a zone of more easily eroded basalt at the base of the upper falls

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the majestic beauty of Multnomah Falls during a serene winter in Columbia Gorge, Oregon. Located on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, this iconic waterfall is a sight to behold. The falls are situated between Corbett and Dodson, along the Historic Columbia River Highway. Formed at the end of a hanging valley created by the powerful Missoula Floods, Multnomah Falls cascades down in two distinct steps. The upper falls stand tall at an impressive height of 165 meters, while the lower falls gracefully descend 21 meters. A gradual drop in elevation between these two sections adds to its grandeur, making it conventionally referred to as a breathtaking 189-meter waterfall. In this particular shot captured by Danita Delimont from Fine Art Storehouse, nature takes center stage with no human presence visible. The vertical composition emphasizes the sheer magnitude of these stunning falls against a backdrop blanketed in snow and ice. This wintery scene evokes feelings of tranquility and awe-inspiring wonder. The connection between man and nature is beautifully showcased through this image's portrayal of untouched wilderness. It serves as a reminder that even amidst freezing temperatures and icy conditions, Mother Nature continues to captivate us with her raw power and ethereal charm.
