Crealocks regiment was serving on the Cape of Good Hope when the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) began. It was immediately sent to India where it joined the Sir Hugh Roses Central India campaign. At this time, Crealock was serving in the 95th (Derbyshire) Regiment of Foot stationed at Cape Good Hope when news broke out about the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). His regiment was immediately deployed to India where they joined Sir Hugh Roses' Central India campaign. During their arduous journey across central India spanning over 3,000 miles, Crealocks' regiment played an instrumental role in capturing key cities such as Gwalior, Kotah, Pouree, and Rowa. This remarkable artwork not only serves as a historical record but also provides us with a glimpse into Crealocks' personal experience with war. It reminds us of both its harsh realities and its undeniable allure – what he refers to as "the Romance of War. "
