EDITORS COMMENTS
This engraving, titled "26th Regiment of Foot, 1742 circa" takes us back to the 18th century and offers a glimpse into the military history of Great Britain. The print showcases an unknown artist's meticulous attention to detail, capturing the uniforms and regalia of this esteemed regiment. Originally known as The Cameronian Guard when it was raised in 1688, this unit underwent a name change in 1751 to become the 26th Regiment of Foot. However, it had already been recognized by that number for several years prior. Notably, while the regiment initially sported white facings on their red coats, they later adopted yellow facings during uniform standardization around 1751. The print is part of a larger volume called "A Representation of the Clothing of His Majesty's Household and all Forces upon the Establishments of Great Britain". This volume consists of an impressive collection comprising 104 colored engravings published around 1742. Displayed at London's National Army Museum, this historical artifact provides valuable insight into both military fashion trends and British army organization during that era. It serves as a reminder not only of our rich past but also honors those who served in this distinguished regiment. Brought to you by Bridgeman Images via Fine Art Finder, this remarkable print allows us to appreciate and celebrate our shared heritage through artistry and historical documentation.
