by Richardson, Thomas Miles (1784-1848); 95.5x63.5 cm; Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK; (add.info.: George IV sailed from Greenwich in London to start a short visit to Scotland in 1822. The royal barge is beside the quay in this scene. A group of raised oars mark where the rowers are sitting at the rear of the barge. The barges decorated passenger compartment is behind them, where a soldier is keeping guard. The picture is one of Thomas Miles Richardson Seniors most outstanding w/cs. It was exhibited in Newcastle in 1826. Richardson painted only a few scenes outside his home area of the North East.
