EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases "The Minor or Mino, Greater and Less" a stunning coloured engraving created by George Edwards in 1749-73. The artwork is part of a private collection and features the re-engravings done by Michael Seligmann, a German engraver, illustrator, and art dealer from Nuremberg. Originally engraved by Edwards for his works on uncommon birds and natural history, Seligmann took it upon himself to enhance the plates. He combined Edwards' work with Mark Catesby's "A Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands" translating names into German while also adding additional figures and plants not present in the original engravings. In this particular image, titled "Der Minor oder Mino" we are presented with an exquisite illustration that captures various bird species such as Sturnus indicus bontii (Greater Indian Myna) and Sturnus indicus minor (Lesser Indian Myna). The attention to detail is remarkable as each feather seems to come alive through intricate lines etched onto paper. This print serves as a testament to both nature's beauty and the artistic talent of these renowned individuals. It allows us to appreciate their dedication in preserving these avian wonders for generations to come. Whether you are an avid bird enthusiast or simply admire fine artistry, this enchanting piece is sure to captivate your imagination.
