EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the young Henri-Charles-Ferdinand of Artois, Duke of Bordeaux, and his sister Louise-Marie-Therese in a tender moment at the Tuileries. Painted by Louis Hersent, this oil on canvas masterpiece measures 148x110 cm and is currently housed in the magnificent Château de Versailles in France. Henri Charles Ferdinand, also known as Henri V, was the posthumous son of Charles-Ferdinand Duke of Berry and the last heir of the elder branch of Bourbons. As a pretender to the French throne from 1830 onwards, he never had the opportunity to rule. His sister Louise Marie Therese later became Duchess of Parma and Piacenza. In this portrait, we see these aristocratic siblings portrayed with utmost elegance and grace. The attention to detail is exquisite - from their delicate lace attire to their serene expressions. Henri leans against a bed adorned with luxurious curtains while his sister stands beside him. The painting beautifully captures their innocence and youthfulness; it is a testament to Hersent's skill as an artist. A copy of this remarkable artwork can be found in Frohsdorf Palace in Austria. This photograph print allows us to appreciate not only its artistic value but also provides insight into an important period in French history when royal legitimacy was fiercely debated within society.
