On the advice of his doctors, the marine painter Alexey Bogolyubov spent an important period of his life in France. In Paris, he made paintings for the Russian Cathedral of Saint Alexander Nevsky, located on Daru Street, and played an important tutor role for the fellows of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts. From 1870 on, his studio became one of the pivotal points of the Russian artistic colony.
