3707464 Vault of the Hall of the Treasure (fresco) by Garofalo, Benvenuto Tisi da (1481-1559); Palazzo Costabili or Palazzo di Ludovico il Moro, Ferrara, Emilia Romagna, Italy; (add.info.: Ferrara, Palazzo Costabili or Palazzo di Ludovico il Moro (today it is the seat of the National Archaeological of Spina), Aula Costabiliana o Hall of the Treasure, vault: XVI century frescoes by Benvenuto Tisi, known as il Garofalo. Along the sides of the ceiling a large balcony, where Oriental rugs are hanging out, is painted. There is a gallery of characters, many of them have musical instruments. In an evocative scenography, above the balcony, there are a turquoise sky, with a gazebo filled with branches of fruit, knotted around the balustrade. This room is, in fact, a hortus conclusus, a secret garden realised by the owner for his notable guests.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the "Vault of the Hall of the Treasure" fresco, created by Italian artist Benvenuto Tisi da Garofalo in the 16th century. Located in Palazzo Costabili or Palazzo di Ludovico il Moro in Ferrara, Italy, this stunning artwork adorns the Aula Costabiliana or Hall of the Treasure. The ceiling of this magnificent hall is a true testament to aristocratic elegance and sophistication. Along its sides hangs a large balcony adorned with Oriental rugs, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of opulence and grandeur. The balcony features a gallery of characters, many holding musical instruments, leaning out to express their love for arts, music, and poetry. Above the balcony lies a picturesque turquoise sky with a gazebo embellished with branches laden with fruits delicately knotted around its balustrade. This room serves as an hortus conclusus or secret garden specially designed by the owner to impress notable guests. At the center of this illusionistic opening stands an elaborate carved and gilded wooden rose window alongside an architectural structure that acts as both cover and decoration. Surrounding it is a frieze adorned with grotesque motifs containing medallions depicting mythological scenes and stories from ancient Rome. This print allows viewers to appreciate Garofalo's mastery in capturing not only artistic beauty but also conveying social status through visual storytelling. It offers us a glimpse into Ferrara's rich cultural heritage while showcasing exquisite craftsmanship that has stood the test of time.
