EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of Prince Kung's Dragon and Phoenix Tianhuang Seals, created between 1662 and 1861 by the Chinese School. The seals, measuring 3.3x3.3x8.6 and 3.3x3.3x8.8 cm respectively, are carved from a single boulder with a square section rising to a sloping upper surface. One seal depicts a dragon gazing down on its young striding amongst lingzhi, while the other portrays a pair of phoenix soaring amidst peonies. Both scenes are positioned above the signature "Cangmen". The dragons seal features an incised seven-character stanza followed by a signature dated in 1719, along with an eight-character inscription on its face referring to Prince Gong. Similarly, the phoenix seal bears an incised five-character stanza followed by another signature and is adorned with a four-character inscription flanked by chilong below it. The stones used for these seals possess deep honey tones infused with characteristic radish veining, adding to their allure and beauty. This stunning photograph captures every intricate detail of these historical treasures that were once owned by Prince Kung himself during the Kangxi Period (1662-1722). It offers viewers an opportunity to appreciate not only their artistic value but also their cultural significance as symbols of power and prestige in ancient China.
