Full-length seated figure facing half-right. Grant is seated in a red armchair, his right hand resting on the arm, his left on a red covered table on which lie papers, an ink-well and quill. He wears a black suit, white stock and his hair is white. A red curtain is draped on the top left-hand side. Charles Grant went to India 1767-71, as a private trader. He served in the Company's Bengal cadre 1772-90. After retirement he became an MP in 1802, a Director of the East India Company 1794-1803; Chairman 1805-06, 1809-10 and 1815-16. He was prominent in the Company's opposition to the policy of Marquess Wellesley; was a staunch supporter of missionary and educational work in India, and played a leading part in the establishment of Haileybury College.; British Library, London, UK; (add.info.: Illustrator: Lucas, May Lancaster

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
