RGL212699 Symbolic designs on the lid of the Pastos in the vault of the Adepts, c.1895 (coloured ink on paper) by English School, (19th century); Private Collection; ( Pastos was the tomb in which lay the mythical figure of Christian Rosencreutz, the legendary, perhaps allegorical, founder of the Rosicrucian Order; these symbolic designs show two aspects of the Christ, the lower in the form of the Crucified Jesus and the upper in the form of Alpha & Omega; the meaning of the symbols was explained to each new Adept in the Order of the Golden Dawn, a magical Rosicrucian order active in Great Britain during the late 19th and early 20th centuries; Adepts constituted the third and highest rank in the organisation of the order; Pastos A©tait la tombe dans laquelle reposait le personnage mythique de Christian Rosencreutz, le lA©gendaire, peut-A?tre allA©gorique, fondateur de l'ordre de la Rose-Croix ; ces dessins symboliques montrent deux aspects du Christ, le bas sous la forme de JA©sus crucifiA© et le haut sous la forme d'Alpha & Omega ; la signification des symboles a A©tA© expliquA©e A? chaque nouvelle adepte de l'ordre de la Golden Dawn, un Ordre rosicrucien magique active en Grande-Bretagne au cours de la fin du XIXe et du dA©but du XXe siA?cle; les Adeptes constituent le troisiA?me et plus haut rang dans l'organisation de l'ordre;); English, out of copyright
